The decision to include inter-arch elastics as a part of the orthodontic correction for a patient depends on many diagnostic factors. Depending on the direction of the elastic wear and depending on the location of the elastic features on the aligners, this can affect the control of the tooth movements in that area of the arch.

Dr. Dayan will review some common setups of inter-arch elastics that allow for corrections in Class II, Class III or cross-bite directions, and show how they can differ depending on other factors about the case in treatment, such as simultaneous correction of vertical challenges such as deep bite or open bite.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the effect of elastics on the complete arch position, as well as on the
teeth in the location of elastic wear.
  • Learn how to adapt elastic features of aligners depending on the movements of
the teeth in that location of the arch.
  • Adapt different patterns of elastic wear depending the simultaneous correction of
vertical challenges such as deep bite or open bite.
